993 Turbo Upgrades and Products

Upgrading the 993 Turbo is not without its difficulties. The 993 Turbo is air mass driven rather than boost driven, so once the target air mass has been reached, performance is achieved. Furthermore, the 993 Turbo DME ( the brain ) is knock sensitive especially in terms of intake temps - when these rise above certain preset targets, power is reduced.

Many tuners offer upgrades and promise over 500hp utilising hybrid turbos etc. However in our R&D on the 993 Turbo and some of these packages, we have found that the power deliver is inconsistent as a result - sometimes full boost is available but then at other times the car feels less responsive. As a result our packages do not offer the horse power claims that others do, but we do deliver a solid improvement in power, that is always available. Tuning the 993 Turbo is worthwhile, but we feel less is more in terms of performance.

Our R&D is also backed up by the factory upgrade kits - the optional 430hp kit which includes modified DME and a Turbo 'S' auxiliary oil cooler kit raises the power by just 22hp. The 450hp kit also includes different turbos and exhaust tips.

9E has therefore designed, installed and tested our alternative packages to improve Porsche factory kits with consistent results. Our kits are more competitive in price and provide an appropriate level of power increase, whilst ensuring that the engine components are not stressed.
