In 2009 Porsche introduced the generation 2 Turbo for the 997 range. The previous 3.6L engine was ditched in favour of a blown version of the 3.8L direct-injection (DFI) flat six engine from the Carrera S. The Variable-vane twin turbochargers were extensively revised to increase responsiveness along with upgrades to the intercooler and fuel system, giving a 20bhp increase to 500ps.
Whilst a manual gearbox was offered, over 95% of customers selected the revised seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox, with larger clutches and revised ratios compared with the unit used in other 911s. Paddles were fitted to the steering wheel for the first time and performance improved to 3.4 seconds 0-100kph and a top speed of 194mph. Many car magazines have tested the car with 0-100kph being consistently 2.8-2.9 seconds.
